Tottenham make history by failing to clinch any summer signings

Mauricio Pochettino will head into the new Premier League campaign with the same squad that finished the 2017-18 season.

The transfer period in England's top flight closed Thursday, leaving Tottenham as the only club in league history not to sign a single player during the summer window since its introduction in 2003.

Dutch striker Vincent Janssen returned from his loan spell at Fenerbahce, but Spurs were unable to complete deals for any fresh faces; a move for Jack Grealish reportedly fell apart earlier this week, while rumblings of interest in Wilfried Zaha cooled as the window went on.

Crucially, though, Tottenham didn't lose any of their marquee stars to fellow Premier League clubs. Other European sides can still sign players from England's top flight until their respective transfer windows close later this month.

Pochettino will need continued internal development from his squad if Spurs are to improve on last season's third-place finish.
