Tottenham Hotspur's supposed pursuit of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish saw its first tangible evidence Tuesday night with less than 48 hours until the Premier League transfer window closes.

Having been linked with the 22-year-old for much of the summer without making an official approach, Spurs have finally set their interest in stone with an initial bid of £25 million, the Telegraph's Sam Wallace reports.

Wallace suggests Grealish is keen on a move to north London and Mauricio Pochettino's charges are reportedly hopeful of completing a deal at their current valuation, but it could take some movement on either club's part for any deal to be done before the deadline passes.

Villa at one stage looked as though they would have to stick Grealish in the bargain basement aisle as a result of financial constraints, but have been reinvigorated by recent investment. As such, the belated timing of Spurs' offer may hamstring them; if notoriously miserly chairman Daniel Levy had been determined to take Grealish at under £25 million, a more aggressive stance prior to Villa's takeover surely would have got the deal done.

Now, the Championship club will stand for no less than £30 million before they consider allowing their most precocious talent to depart, according to the Mirror's Darren Lewis.

Grealish started Villa's season-opening 3-1 win over Hull City on Monday, in which he assisted the first goal.
