Report: Brewers unwilling to include prospect Burnes in Machado deal
The Milwaukee Brewers are high on right-hander Corbin Burnes.
The Brewers are reportedly not willing to part with Burnes in a potential trade for Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado.
The Orioles asked for Burnes as the key piece of a deal, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Brewers reportedly countered with outfielder Brett Phillips and pitcher Luis Ortiz as the primary pieces.
Burnes, 23, made his major-league debut on Tuesday night, recording a two-inning save without allowing a single baserunner.
Prior to his call-up, Burnes had split time between the bullpen and starting rotation in Triple-A, where he went 3-4 with a 5.15 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings. He had much more favorable results throughout 2017, recording a 1.67 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 145 2/3 innings across two minor-league levels.
