Although Paul Pogba insisted that his second season at Manchester United was better than his first, he also admitted that he had a somewhat rocky relationship with manager Jose Mourinho.

The French midfielder has attracted plenty of criticism during his first two seasons back with United after struggling to live up to the immense expectations that came with the £89.3-million transfer fee United paid in 2016.

His situation at Old Trafford appeared to take a turn for the worse over a six-week span last winter when he was named to the bench in four of seven matches - including the second leg of United's round of 16 clash with Sevilla when Mourinho's men were eliminated.

Although he didn't get too specific, Pogba revealed that his issues with Mourinho will help him improve going forward.

"It was a better season that the previous one," Pogba said, according to Jonathan Johnson of ESPN FC. "It was an experience. There were some small issues with (Mourinho), but they were nothing in the end.

"Being a substitute, that sort of thing, it helps you to grow. I have to accept it."

Pogba finished last season with six goals and 13 assists, but saw his appearances as a substitute triple compared to the previous campaign.
