Over a two-week period, theScore's NCAAF editors will be taking a look at the best individual seasons across the college football landscape over the last 20 years, focusing specifically on players from the Power 5 conferences.

Each day, we will be counting down the top 10 that college football has had to offer over the last two decades.

No. 8 - Auburn QB Cam Newton's 2010 season

The 2010 season was arguably the greatest ever for Auburn football, as the program claimed its second national title. The main reason for that success was Cameron Jerrell Newton. The star quarterback piled up 4,369 total yards and 51 touchdowns on his way to the Heisman Trophy.

Newton was a one-man wrecking crew for the Tigers as the team averaged 41.6 points per game, fourth best in the country, en route to a perfect record and a national championship victory over Oregon.

He later declared for the 2011 NFL Draft, where the Carolina Panthers selected the pivot first overall.

Newton led the SEC in rushing, finishing more than 100 yards ahead of the top running back, Arkansas' Knile Davis. He ranked 12th overall in the entire country, while his 20 rushing touchdowns ranked third nationally among all players.

What made the season so special?

Newton announced his intentions to dominate from the jump with a brilliant showing in the opener against Arkansas State, accounting for five total touchdowns and more than 350 yards of offense in the win. After three straight narrow victories over Mississippi State, Clemson, and South Carolina, it was clear the Tigers were going to be a problem for the rest of the country.

Newton kept things rolling with a tight win over LSU, complete with one of the most electrifying touchdown runs in a long time. The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry contest against Georgia would see Newton rush for 151 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 148 yards and two scores through the air, setting up an epic Iron Bowl against Alabama.

It appeared the Tigers' magical run would come to an end as the Crimson Tide jumped out to a 24-0 lead, but Newton tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another to bring Auburn all the way back and complete "The Camback."

After hammering South Carolina in the SEC championship game, Newton and Auburn outlasted Oregon in the final to claim the national title.
