The Cleveland Browns agreed to a three-year contract extension Thursday with running back Duke Johnson.

Financial terms weren't confirmed by the Browns, but a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Johnson inked a deal worth $15.6 million.

The contract includes $7.7 million in guaranteed money, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

"I'm excited. It's fun to see how this team is shaping out and I want to be a part of it," Johnson told the team's official website. "You can see it with the guys they brought in on offense like Tyrod (Taylor) and (Jarvis) Landry plus the guys we already had. I think bringing in coach (Todd) Haley adds another dimension to our offense and it gives coach (Hue) Jackson the chance to be the head coach. (Browns general manager) John Dorsey has been bringing in guys that can play, that can ball, and that gives us a chance. Now it's about going out and doing it now."

Johnson, who had one year left on his rookie deal, has served as a reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield for the Browns over his first three seasons in the league. He rushed for 348 yards and four touchdowns last year while adding 693 yards and three touchdowns in the passing game.

"Duke Johnson is a good football player," Dorsey said. "His hard work and commitment to the Browns organization is appreciated and we are excited to extend his contract and keep him in a Browns uniform for years to come. Duke is an excellent representative of our organization. He leads by example and we look forward to him playing an important role with the Cleveland Browns moving forward."

The 24-year-old is expected to share the backfield in 2018 with veteran Carlos Hyde and rookie Nick Chubb.

Johnson was a third-round pick of the Browns in 2015 out of Miami.
