Jets' rookie TE charged with DWI following car accident
New York Jets tight end Christopher Herndon IV was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a car accident early Saturday morning, according to Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald.
The car Herndon was driving hit a vehicle owned by 76-year-old Albert Elliott at 4:45 a.m. ET on Saturday morning in New Jersey, a State Police spokesman confirmed to the Herald. Herndon was seen being taken away in handcuffs.
"The case remains under investigation,'' spokesman Jeff Flynn said. "Mr. Herndon was arrested and charged with DWI. The DWI charge is considered a violation of New Jersey motor vehicle statutes."
A fourth-round pick out of Miami in April's draft, Herndon had recently signed his rookie deal with the Jets and was considered to be in competition with Jordan Leggett, Clive Walford, and Eric Tomlinson for the Jets' starting job at tight end.
A team spokesman said they are "aware of the situation," according to Calvin Watkins of Newsday.
