The entire situation with the Philadelphia 76ers just got impossibly messy.

A bombshell investigation by Ben Detrick of The Ringer uncovered five burner Twitter accounts that were allegedly operated by 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo.

Among the many incriminating discoveries was that Colangelo slammed center Joel Embiid for being "selfish and a bit lazy" and clamored to trade him for New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis.

Once the investigation was made public Tuesday, it drew a response from Embiid, who tweeted at one of the alleged accounts belonging to Colangelo with a nod to former Sixers GM Sam Hinkie.

Embiid also made a point to like several inflammatory tweets that were aimed at him from Colangelo's alleged accounts.

However, Embiid also released a statement through Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that Colangelo had called him personally to deny the story.

"I talked to him and he said that he didn’t say that. He called me just to deny the story. Gotta believe him until proven otherwise. If true though, that would be really bad," Embiid said.
