Manuel Pellegrini's reported move back to the Premier League edged closer to reality with news Saturday that the former Manchester City manager has left Hebei China Fortune.

The Chinese Super League team announced that the Chilean will no longer be the team's manager as of Sunday.

News of his departure paves the way for a return to the Premier League, following reports that Pellegrini is the favourite to succeed David Moyes as manager of West Ham.

Reports Saturday suggested that the 64-year-old is expected to arrive in London, where he will hold talks with West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan.

A statement, as translated by the Mirror, from the Chinese Super League team read: "After amicable discussions with Mr. Pellegrini, we have reached a mutual agreement.

"As of May 20, Mr Pellegrini will no longer work as the head coach of Hebei China Fortune Football Club."

Pellegrini managed Manchester City for three seasons and guided the club to the Premier League title in 2014 before his departure two years later.
