Carlos Carvalhal will not manage Swansea City in the Championship next season with news that the Welsh side has parted ways with the Portuguese manager in the wake of its relegation from the Premier League.

The announcement comes after Carvalhal failed to steer Swansea away from the drop in the time since his appointment in December.

He signed a contract until June, which Swansea decided not to renew just days after relegation to the second tier was confirmed on Sunday.

"Naturally, we are all disappointed with the club's relegation from the Premier League, and following discussions with Carlos, we felt it was in the best interests of both parties that we move in a new direction," Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said.

"We will now be looking to appoint a new manager in readiness for the 2018-19 season."

It's believed that Graham Potter, manager of Swedish outfit Ostersund, has emerged as a candidate to replace Carvalhal ahead of the team's first season in the Championship since the 2010-11 campaign.

Carvalhal's appointment appeared to provide hope for the struggling Welsh club after collecting 17 points in his first nine matches in charge. However, Swansea dropped out of the Premier League after collecting just three points over the final nine fixtures.

Swansea will now begin its search for a fifth manager in 19 months following the disappointing results from Carvalhal, Paul Clement, Bob Bradley, and Francesco Guidolin.
