It sounds like Aaron Rodgers will soon be an even richer man.

The Green Bay Packers' star quarterback used to hold the title of the NFL's highest-paid player, but he has since been surpassed by a handful of fellow quarterbacks. However, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst believes a new deal is close, one that will likely push the two-time MVP back to the top of the pile.

"Both sides are working toward it and we're confident we'll come to an agreement soon," Gutekunst said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Gutekunst added negotiations "are taking (their) normal course ... normal time."

Another former MVP in Matt Ryan is also seeking a new contract that should exceed Kirk Cousins' $28-million-a-year deal, and it's possible Green Bay is waiting for the Atlanta Falcons to reset the market before finalizing Rodgers' deal.
