Report: Some GMs skeptical Browns will select Mayfield with No. 1 pick

Trevor Ruszkowski / USA TODAY Sports

After months of speculation that the Cleveland Browns would use their first overall pick on either Josh Allen or Sam Darnold, reports have surfaced, mere hours before the draft, that multiple head coaches and general managers believe the Browns will use the top pick on Baker Mayfield.

It now appears not everyone bought in. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport spoke to more than one general manager who was unconvinced the rumors were true. Appearing on NFL Network's draft preview show, Rapoport said "I just talked to another GM who's known John Dorsey well, and he said 'he's not taking Mayfield. I know that's false.'"

While it appears all three quarterbacks are in contention to be the No. 1 selection Thursday night, no decision will be final until Dorsey steps to the podium in Arlington.
