Balls bolting from Lithuanian club; LaVar says 'coach ruined everything'
The great Lithuanian winter and spring of the Ball family appears over.
Basketball club BC Vytautas told 24 Sek's Donatas Urbonas that both LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball are set to leave Lithuania next week, with two games remaining in the team's season. Their father LaVar confirmed this to Urbonas.
"We're not going to waste our time no more", LaVar is quoted as saying. "I just didn't get along with the coach," he added.
LiAngelo has declared for June's NBA draft, where he's not anticipated to be selected. Ball said that there is no chance that youngest son LaMelo will return to Lithuania.
"You really ask me this?" Urbonas quotes Ball as saying. "Coach ruined everything and he'll have to pay the price that Melo is not coming back."
The Balls decamped for the Baltic nation in January after LaVar pulled LiAngelo out of UCLA and LaMelo out of high school. LiAngelo averaged 12.6 points in 14 Lithuanian games, while 16-year-old LaMelo averaged 6.5 in eight.
