Paul Richardson: Police assumed I was drug dealer, asked if I was in gang

Virginia police are reviewing an incident involving Washington Redskins receiver Paul Richardson and a trooper after the 26-year-old tweeted about being pulled over Tuesday afternoon, ESPN reports.

The former Seattle Seahawks receiver, who signed with the Redskins this offseason, recounted (in since-deleted tweets) that he was pulled over in a toll lane. The trooper asked if Richardson was in a gang and admitted to assuming he was a drug dealer.

A spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police said Richardson was stopped "because the vehicle did not have license plates displayed as required by Virginia law" and was cited "for failing to have the vehicle properly registered."

Richardson confirmed the story with a later tweet, clarifying that dealing with the legal matter over social media wasn't appropriate.
