Whiteside goes at Spoelstra: 'Coach wants me to just be in a corner and set picks'

Things couldn't have gone any worse for Hassan Whiteside in the playoffs, but he somehow found a way.

Whiteside ripped Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra following yet another embarrassing appearance in Game 3, as the Philadelphia 76ers went up 2-1 in the series thanks to 23 points from the recovered Joel Embiid.

"I feel like our offense is a lot different. I'm not as involved in as many dribble handoffs as I was and postups as I was in the regular season. That's what coach wants," Whiteside told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

"Coach wants me to just be in the corner and set picks. That's what he wants. I've just got to trust it."

This is nothing new from Whiteside, as was fined earlier this month for going on an expletive-laden tirade about Spoelstra's rotations. He was slapped with a fine for his efforts.

Whiteside finished with five points on Thursday, which is actually his best effort of the playoffs thus far. He scored six points total in the other two games and has logged just 38 minutes in the series - the Heat have been outscored by 18 over that time.

On the whole, Whiteside has been a liability on both sides of the floor, as the Heat have vastly improved with Kelly Olynyk and Bam Adebayo at center. Whiteside isn't giving much effort, and Spoelstra has acted accordingly by benching him.
