Girardi finds it 'weird not managing,' wants to return eventually

Joe Girardi has more than a decade of managerial experience at the major-league level. The New York Yankees, with whom he spent 10 seasons, decided not to bring him back for an 11th campaign after the team came up short in last year's ALCS.

While it's been an adjustment adapting to life as a studio analyst at MLB Network, he's been comfortable on the sidelines so far.

"It is somewhat weird not managing when I've been doing it 11 out of the last 12 years, 10 in a row," Girardi told Newsday's Neil Best. "It was unusual not to go to spring training - not that I missed it - but it has been great spending a lot of time with my wife and children, and I've enjoyed that immensely."

Despite this, he is not against leaving the desk behind to take his place as another team's bench boss.

"I do want to manage again and obviously will approach it as opportunities come up," he said.

In 11 seasons as a manager between the Marlins and Yankees, Girardi accrued a 988-794 record, taking home a World Series title in 2009.
