Saints' Payton: I don't see a Luck or Wentz in this draft

Quarterbacks are the talk of the town as the NFL draft quickly approaches, with some analysts projecting six players at the position to be selected in the opening round.

That number would represent the most on the first night since 1983, but New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton doesn't see any of the prospects measuring up to the top players in recent years.

"I don't see (Andrew) Luck in this draft, and I don't see Carson Wentz, who I liked a lot coming into the draft," Payton told Peter King of The MMQB. "I'd feel a little bit uneasy if I were at the top of this draft and I decided I had to have a quarterback. The pressure to get a quarterback is so great in this league, I get that. But we can't create 'em. I wouldn't be surprised if only one of these guys is left standing in four or five years, and if so, I'd guess it would be Sam Darnold."

With Drew Brees having recently celebrated his 39th birthday, the Saints could look at long-term replacement options in this year's draft. Darnold definitely won't be around when New Orleans picks at 27th overall, so Payton will likely have to look elsewhere if he hopes to find his next starting pivot.

Judging by his comments on the weekend, it doesn't appear likely he'll be doing so in the opening round.
