The Washington Redskins have selected safety Troy Apke out of Penn State in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 109th overall.

The uber-athletic Apke blew away scouts at the NFL Scouting Combine, but lacks experience, having played only one year as a full-time starter.

What the analysts are saying

  • "With just one year as a full-time starter, there simply isn't enough impressive tape to get excited about. He has decent size and could put together a solid workout, but may not offer enough range in coverage or thump as a tackler to ever be a full-time contributor." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
  • "While his 2017 film was a pleasant surprise, his workout numbers in Indianapolis were almost shocking. Apke checks the boxes for speed (4.34 40-yard dash), lower-body explosion (41-inch vertical and 10-foot-11 broad jump) and short-area redirection skills (6.56 three cone and 4.03 short shuttle). That athleticism didn't translate to coverage in college, but he can run and hit. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
