The New England Patriots may have their sights set on an unconventional heir to quarterback Tom Brady's throne.

Lamar Jackson has visited with the team twice - once for a private workout in South Florida, and once in Foxborough, according to Jenny Vrentas of the MMQB.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that New England's interest in the quarterback prospect is "legit."

Jackson is widely believed to be the fifth-ranked quarterback on most 2018 draft boards, coming in behind the top group of Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, and Baker Mayfield.

The Patriots may have the assets required for a potential trade up to select Jackson, as they own the No. 23 and No. 31 selections in Thursday's first round, along with two more picks in Saturday's second round.
