Jets rescind offer to Ndamukong Suh

Ndamukong Suh won't be joining the New York Jets after all.

In a surprising reveal, Jets CEO and acting owner Christopher Johnson confirmed the team has rescinded a contract offer to the defensive tackle, adding Suh wasn't "in keeping with our long-term plan," according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan reportedly didn't get permission from Johnson before presenting Suh a "pretty big" offer. Johnson stepped in after the contract proposal was made and spoke to Maccagnan, opting to go in a different direction.

"It became apparent to the two of us that this just didn't work," Johnson said. "I don't want to be a flash in the pan. I don't want to load up on people who can get you there, but can't keep you there. This is about building something great long term."

The Jets emerged as a contender for Suh in large part due to their cap space. In comparison to the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints - three other teams in the mix for Suh - the Jets had the second most money to dangle in front of the five-time Pro Bowler. Jets head coach Todd Bowles also spoke with Suh about how the team could incorporate him in its defense.

The 31-year-old will now, ostensibly, decide between the Rams, Saints, and Titans. Of the three teams, Suh said he's "intrigued" by the thought of joining the Rams, who appear to be the most logical fit. Despite playing on a poor Miami Dolphins team, Suh is still a valuable and effective presence, ranking as Pro Football Focus' fifth-best defensive tackle in 2017.
