The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected running back Ronald Jones II out of USC in the second round with the 38th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Jones rushed for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns during his final season at USC and can become the workhorse back for the Buccaneers immediately.

The running back is elusive in the open field and does a good job of evading would-be tacklers.

Jones will likely compete against Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber for the starting role.

What the analysts are saying

  • "Jones is a classic slasher with the wiggle and explosiveness to elude open-field tacklers and then burst to chunks of yardage. Jones was a much more assertive runner in 2017 and improved upon areas of improvement from the 2016 season." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
  • "Overall, Jones needs to improve his run tempo and his workload will need to be monitored, but he flashes the home run speed, understated power, and run determination to elevate an NFL backfield." - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
