On this day in 1948 in Parry Sound, Ontario, Arva Orr gave birth to Robert Douglas Orr - later known as Bobby - who would grow up to be arguably the greatest hockey player ever to lace up a pair of skates.

Known for his smooth skating and outstanding offensive capabilities, Orr would set many records for defensemen that may never be matched.

Orr joined the Oshawa Generals at age 14 for four years before joining the Boston Bruins in the 1966-67 season.

The Bruins, who hadn't won a Stanley Cup since 1941, would win Cups in 1970 and '71 with Orr scoring one of the most memorable goals in hockey history.

Unfortunately, injuries cut Orr's career short, but he's still remembered as an all-time great.
