Report: Sean Smith to plead guilty to assault, serve 1 year in jail

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders will reportedly release corner Sean Smith, who will plead guilty to a felony charge of assault Tuesday, a source told Nathan Fenno of the Los Angeles Times.

He'll serve a one-year jail sentence plus three years' probation as part of his plea agreement, Fenno reports.

Smith is accused of beating his sister's boyfriend and stomping on his head July 4 in Pasadena.

Smith signed a four-year, $38-million deal with the Raiders in 2016. His release saves the team $8.5 million in cap space but leaves the team's secondary particularly thin.
