Report: Twins release Anibal Sanchez

Less than one month after signing Anibal Sanchez to a non-guaranteed one-year, $2.5-million contract, the Minnesota Twins are reportedly releasing the veteran right-handed starter, according to Mike Bernadino of Twin Cities Pioneer Press.

As a result of being released during spring training, Sanchez is due $403,000 in termination pay, but he would have been owed $605,000 had the Twins waited until Tuesday to make the move, per Bernandino.

Sanchez's release comes one day after the Twins reportedly completed a one-year, $12-million deal with free-agent right-hander Lance Lynn.

The 34-year-old Sanchez had struggled in spring with the Twins, posting a 13.50 ERA over four innings. He allowed six runs - all earned - on five hits and one walk in two appearances.

In his first appearance, Sanchez cruised, not allowing a single baserunner against the Boston Red Sox over two innings of work while striking out one. But he unraveled in his next game, allowing all six of his earned runs despite punching out four against the Pittsburgh Pirates spring squad.
