Report: Raiders expected to pursue Martin after meeting with Gruden
Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden recently had a face-to-face meeting with free-agent running back Doug Martin, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gruden "came away impressed with (Martin) as a person," according to Rapoport, and Oakland is expected to make a strong push to secure the veteran in free agency.
Marshawn Lynch has one year remaining on his contract, but the Raiders can cut him without incurring any dead money and would save nearly $6 million.
Martin has been all or nothing during his six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had two seasons with over 1,400 yards rushing (2012, 2015), but failed to break 500 in his other four seasons.
Martin missed 31 starts during those four seasons, due to either injury or suspension.
