The Los Angeles Rams will either release or trade wide receiver Tavon Austin before the start of free agency March 14, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The Rams signed Austin to a four-year, $42-million contract prior to the 2016 campaign, but produced just 13 catches for 47 yards and zero touchdowns during last season.

L.A. will save $3 million in cap space by parting ways with the wideout, but will carry $5 million in dead money if he's released and not traded, according to Over The Cap.

The Rams were the highest-scoring offense in the league last season, but head coach Sean McVay couldn't find a role for Austin, who spent much of the year essentially playing as a backup running back.

Austin produced over 500 yards in 2016 and possesses an intriguing skill set, so his free-agent market will be hard to predict.
