Eagles downplay potential QB controversy between Wentz, Foles

Nick Foles may be the reigning Super Bowl MVP, but it appears certain that he'll be relegated to the sidelines.

Foles led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 41-33 upset victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, finding Zach Ertz for the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The veteran quarterback filled in admirably for Carson Wentz, who was in the midst of an MVP-caliber season before tearing his ACL in December. Although Foles wildly surpassed expectations, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson made it clear that he'll be the backup once Wentz is healthy.

"What I love about Nick Foles is, he knows this is Carson’s team. There’s no ego there. He knows when Carson’s ready to go, he’ll be out there. That goes to the unselfishness of this team I talk about," Pederson said of Foles on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman raved about his team's depth at quarterback, issuing praise to Wentz, Foles, and Nate Sudfeld.

"We have a franchise quarterback. We have a Super Bowl MVP, and we have a young quarterback that we’re excited about as well. That’s kind of how we’re looking at it as we get started in the offseason. We’ve got a lot of areas that we have to address. We’re getting started a little bit behind all these other teams, and we know in this league if we don’t get to work and get serious about this, we’re going to get our butt kicked," Roseman said.

The Eagles' quarterback depth is enviable and is a key reason why the rest of the league is looking to catch up to them. For the time being, however, Foles serves as an excellent potential trade asset prior to the 2018 season.
