The Chicago Bears are aiming to undo what was widely perceived as one of the biggest mistakes from last offseason as soon as they can.

General manager Ryan Pace confirmed the club will release quarterback Mike Glennon at the beginning on the new league year.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup was signed to a three-year, $45-million contract last offseason with $18.5 million guaranteed.

Cutting him now will cost the team $4.5 million in dead cap space.

He played just the first four games of the 2017 season - throwing four touchdowns and five interceptions - before being moved to the bench in favor of rookie Mitchell Trubisky.

The 2018 league year officially begins March 14. Glennon is due a fully guaranteed roster bonus of $2.5 million March 16, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
