Report: Bridgewater to become a free agent
The confusion over Teddy Bridgewater's contract status is nearing a resolution.
The NFL Management Council has chosen to allow the quarterback to become a free agent, league sources informed Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune.
Bridgewater completed a return from a devastating knee injury this season. He is scheduled to hit free agency in March, but there was some question as to whether the Minnesota Vikings would try to toll his contract due to the time he spent on the PUP list to begin the season.
A section of the league's collective bargaining agreement addresses such matters.
"Any player placed on a physically unable to perform list ("PUP") will be paid his full … salary while on such list. His contract will not be tolled for the period he is on PUP, except in the last year of his contract, when the player's contract will be tolled if he is still physically unable to perform his football services as of the sixth regular season game."
However, the league and union mutually agreed on Tuesday to allow Bridgewater to hit the open market.
