The Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent cornerback Vontae Davis to a one-year contract, the team announced.

The defensive back was released by the Indianapolis Colts in November after undergoing core muscle surgery and spent the rest of the 2017 season as a free agent. He was a Pro Bowler in 2014 and 2015, but injuries have limited him to just 19 games over the last two seasons.

Davis visited a number of teams in addition to the Bills over the last month, including the Dolphins, 49ers, Browns, and Raiders.

The soon-to-be 30-year-old could slide into a starting role in an impressive secondary that already features star sophomore Tre'Davious White and safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde. The signing may signal the end of free-agent cornerback E.J. Gaines' tenure in Buffalo.

Davis was Miami's second-round pick in the 2009 draft. He has accumulated 22 interceptions and four forced fumbles during his nine-year career.
