Report: Eagles have no immediate plans to hire offensive coordinator

With Frank Reich heading to Indianapolis, the Philadelphia Eagles are not currently planning to hire an offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Head coach Doug Pederson has run the offense since arriving in 2016, but Reich played an important role in the team's success this past season.

Running backs coach Duce Staley and wide receivers coach Mike Groh were rumored to be the favorites to replace Reich, but it appears the team may leave the position vacant.

As Rapoport points out, Staley could be promoted to running game coordinator, and Groh to passing game coordinator, which would allow the duo to collect improved titles and increased responsibilities.

While unconventional on the surface, going forward without an offensive coordinator is not uncommon in the NFL. The Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers do not have an OC on their staffs with offensive-minded coaches in Bill O'Brien and Kyle Shanahan, respectively.
