The full details of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's five-year, $137.5-million contract with the San Francisco 49ers are in, via Adam Schefter.

Here's a look at the key points of the deal:

  • $42.6 million in Year 1
  • $61.2 million fully guaranteed in first three seasons
  • $74.1-million injury guarantee
  • Can be cut April 1, 2020 with no guaranteed money left on contract
  • $86.4 million in first three years
  • Potential $7.5-million injury guarantee for 2022 if named first- or second-team All-Pro, or makes NFC Championship Game in 2021
  • Exceeds the $135.4 million earned by Tom Brady in his first 14 seasons if the five-year contract is completed
  • Will hit free agency at 31 years old

The contract was officially announced at a press conference Friday.

The 49ers acquired Garoppolo from the New England Patriots shortly before the 2017 trade deadline in exchange for a second-round pick. He led the team to a five-game winning streak to end the season after replacing C.J. Beathard near the end of a Week 12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Garoppolo finished the season, his fifth in the league, with 1,560 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions, adding one rushing score in his six games.

He has appeared in a total of 23 games between the Patriots and 49ers, sporting a completion percentage of 67.3 and a passer rating of 99.7.

Quarterbacks Kirk Cousins, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Aaron Rodgers, who'll all be looking for contracts in the near future, have to be looking favorably on setting a new benchmark.
