Report: DC Eberflus signed contract with Colts before McDaniels had change of heart
More fallout from the Josh McDaniels debacle involves Indianapolis Colts assistant coaches recruited by the Patriots' offensive coordinator.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Cowboys linebackers coach Matt Eberflus has already signed a contract to become the Colts' defensive coordinator and will stay with his new club despite McDaniels deciding to return to the Patriots. The same goes for defensive line coach Mike Phair, who was previously with Illinois in the same role.
This creates an awkward scenario for the Colts and their coaches, as NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that McDaniels himself recruited Eberflus, and the former Dallas assistant was already inside team facilities breaking down film.
Now, whoever Indianapolis hires as its next head coach will be stuck with assistants he had no hand in hiring - a rarity in the NFL. This could affect the team's hiring process.
