Report: Eagles nearly traded for Cooks before Patriots
Before he was acquired by the New England Patriots last offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles nearly executed a trade with the New Orleans Saints for wide receiver Brandin Cooks, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
A deal with the Eagles apparently would've seen Cooks go to Philly for safety Malcolm Jenkins - who began his career with the Saints - plus a third-round draft pick and a pair of fourth-round selections. The trade was scuttled at the last minute.
Cooks was ultimately shipped to the Patriots, along with a fourth-round pick, for New England's first- and third-round picks.
Cooks enjoyed his third straight 1,000-yard season in 2017, and posted seven touchdowns for the Pats, who'll meet the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
After losing out on Cooks, the Eagles went after Alshon Jeffery in free agency, signing him to a one-year deal that worked out well and led to Jeffery inking an extension in December.
