The Oakland Athletics acquired lefty batter Brandon Moss and left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn and pitching prospect Heath Fillmyer, the team announced Monday.

As a part of the deal, the Athletics reportedly received $3.25 million from the Royals to subsidize the $8.25 million remaining on Moss' deal, according to Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com.

Prior to the 2017 season, Moss signed a two-year deal with Kansas City worth $12 million that also includes a mutual option for 2019 with a $1-million buyout.

The 34-year-old previously spent his most productive seasons with the Athletics between 2012-14. Over 376 games with the team, the first baseman and corner outfielder posted a .254/.340/.504 slash line with 76 home runs.

The 30-year-old Buchter appeared in 71 games last season - all as a reliever - split between the Royals and San Diego Padres. He posted a 24.3 percent strikeout rate while walking 9.7 percent of batters, contributing to a 2.89 ERA and 4.54 FIP over 65 1/3 innings.

Heading back to Kansas City, the 28-year-old Hahn will likely factor into the Royals' starting rotation. In 69 2/3 innings across 14 games - 13 starts - with the Athletics last year, he posted a 5.30 ERA and 3.62 FIP.

The Royals also acquired 23-year-old right-hander Fillmyer. In 149 2/3 innings with Double-A Midland last year, the 2014 fifth-round pick recorded a 3.49 ERA.
