The New York Mets agreed Thursday to bring back infielder Jose Reyes on a one-year deal pending a physical, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The deal is worth $2.5 million plus $500,000 in incentives, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Reyes, 34, has spent the past two seasons with the Mets, converting over that span from shortstop into more of a utility role. Over 145 games in 2017, he spent time at third base, shortstop, and in left field, and even played an inning in center field.

In 561 plate appearances, he posted a .246/.315/.413 slash line.

While he solves an infield need for the Mets, Rosenthal reports that the team is still looking for a starting second baseman. Asdrubal Cabrera and Amed Rosario are likely their starting duo on the left side of the infield.

During his tenure with the Colorado Rockies, Reyes was suspended for more than 50 games in 2016 for violating MLB's joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy. He was released by the Rockies shortly after, then signed a minor-league deal with the Mets.
