Report: Bears tab former Oregon coach Helfrich as new offensive coordinator

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears have found an offensive coordinator to pair with Matt Nagy: former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich.

Helfrich led the Oregon program for four seasons. He succeeded Chip Kelly and led the Ducks to the national championship game in 2014. He was fired in 2016 after a 4-8 season, the school's worst showing since 1991.

Helfrich was rumored to be a contender to join Kelly's staff at UCLA. Instead, he'll be tasked with running an offense centered around 2017 first-round draft pick Mitch Trubisky and running backs Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen.

Nagy is replacing John Fox as head coach after serving as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
