Norv Turner could be returning to the NFL, as a source told David Newton of ESPN the veteran coach is finalizing a deal to become the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.

Turner has been out of football since leaving the Minnesota Vikings following a 5-2 start to the season in 2016. He's certainly familiar with head coach Ron Rivera, as the Panthers frontman was on the San Diego Chargers staff under Turner from 2007 to 2010.

It's expected Turner's son, Scott, will be coming with his father to serve as quarterbacks coach. He was quality control coach under Rivera with the Panthers in 2011 and 2012, and spent the last season on Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan.

The elder Turner is known for his strength in developing quarterbacks, with Troy Aikman, Drew Brees, and Philip Rivers all on his resume.
