Floyd Mayweather has a theory about why Dana White suggested he may come out of retirement to make a move into mixed martial arts.

Speaking with FightHype.com, Mayweather accused White of using his name as leverage in the UFC's negotiations over a new television contract.

"I've made a lot of money in my career, I've spent a lot of money in my career, but I've made a lot of smart investments ... I'm not hurting for money. I took the McGregor fight because that was an opportunity for me to make nine figures ... The UFC, their deal with FOX is coming to an end, so they're trying to renew a new deal. What better name could they use than Floyd Mayweather? That's a great name to use."

Mayweather went on to praise White as a "smart businessman" before adding, "I don't need to fight again."

White initially claimed he was meeting with Mayweather's team about a UFC deal, but told TMZ on Thursday that it was to discuss him getting involved in promoting boxing.
