New York Giants new general manager Dave Gettleman confirmed his intention to move ahead to next season with Eli Manning at quarterback, but he left the door open to draft a potential successor for the soon-to-be 37-year-old.

Gettleman says a team can never have too many good players at one position, according to Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network.

“Eli’s won a lot of games,” Gettleman said, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “A great competitor, very intelligent. He and I are gonna talk and if what I saw in Philadelphia was not a mirage - and I don’t believe it is - we’ll keep moving.”

Manning went 37-for-57 for 434 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In his 14th season with the Giants, Manning has completed 63 percent of 543 pass attempts for 3,336 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The Giants are in a battle with the Indianapolis Colts for the No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft. A win this weekend over the Washington Redskins accompanied by a Colts loss to the Houston Texans would drop them to the No. 3 selection.
