Week 17 Betting Preview: Predictions for every matchup

Jim Brown / USA TODAY Sports

Each week during the NFL season, theScore's Dane Belbeck will handicap every matchup and offer up a three-pack of selected picks.

Week 16 record (includes TNF): 10-5-1
Overall: 126-105-9

Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (-3)

Jacksonville has already clinched the South while the Titans are fighting for their playoff lives. Doug Marrone has insisted that the Jaguars' starters will play in this contest, but don't be shocked if that plan doesn't last very long. The Titans' rush defense is one of the best in the league, and regardless of who is playing quarterback for the Jaguars, they can't be relied upon to win the game through the air. Titans 24, Jaguars 17

New Orleans Saints (-6.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have absolutely nothing to play for and the Saints can clinch the NFC South with a win on the road. New Orleans is thriving thanks to its rushing attack and strong defense, using Drew Brees as a complementary piece instead of the focal point. That approach will be on full display Sunday as Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram take on the league's 24th-ranked rushing defense. That's a bad matchup for Tampa Bay. Saints 28, Buccaneers 20

Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5) at Denver Broncos

Patrick Mahomes will debut as a starter in Denver with the Chiefs already locked in as the No. 4 seed. He'll already be the best quarterback on the field, because either Brock Osweiler or Paxton Lynch will be under center for the Broncos. Denver's season was over long ago, and while the Chiefs will be sitting some starters, they still want to head to the postseason on a good note. Mahomes shows why Andy Reid drafted him so high with a strong performance. Chiefs 24, Broncos 20

Remaining matchups

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (-6.5)

It's a meaningless game in Detroit after the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs last week. Jim Caldwell is likely fighting for his job, so expect the home team (with the much better quarterback) to get the win. Lions 24, Packers 14

Houston Texans (+5) at Indianapolis Colts

Both of these teams have been absolutely terrible without starting quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Andrew Luck. It's likely Chuck Pagano's last game in Indianapolis, while it looks like Bill O'Brien will get another year in Houston. Take the points in what should be one of the worst games of the season. Colts 17, Texans 14

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings (-11.5)

While the Vikings can no longer clinch home field throughout the playoffs, Minnesota can secure a bye for the first round with a win over the lowly Bears. That should be enough motivation to get the job done with ease Sunday. Vikings 27, Bears 10

New York Jets at New England Patriots (-15)

The Patriots lock up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a win, while the Jets will be playing either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg at quarterback. This could get ugly. Patriots 31, Jets 7

Washington Redskins at New York Giants (+3.5)

Both teams are bad and have nothing to play for, but Washington has shown zero reason to be favored on the road this season. Giants 24, Redskins 23

Dallas Cowboys (-3) at Philadelphia Eagles

The Cowboys have nothing to play for and a fresh Ezekiel Elliott. The Eagles will reportedly play Nick Foles and the starters, but with home-field advantage already locked up, that likely won't last long. Cowboys 24, Eagles 17

Cleveland Browns (+10.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Browns are going to go 0-16, but they'll go down with a fight against a Steelers team that has very little to play for as long the Patriots handle the Jets. Steelers 21, Browns 17

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons (-3.5)

Atlanta needs a win to return to the playoffs. Expect the Falcons to get the job done against a familiar opponent. Falcons 27, Panthers 20

San Francisco 49ers (-3) at Los Angeles Rams

The Rams plan to rest virtually everyone against a red-hot 49ers team with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm. San Francisco closes the season with five straight wins as Los Angeles prepares for the playoffs. 49ers 30, Rams 20

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (+3)

Buffalo needs a win and some help to get in the playoffs, so expect a strong effort from the Bills on the road. The Dolphins wrap up another disappointing season with perhaps the last game of Jay Cutler's career. Bills win a tight one, but take the Dolphins to cover. Bills 24, Dolphins 23

Oakland Raiders (+8.5) at Los Angeles Chargers

The Raiders' defense has actually been very solid since John Pagano took over, allowing just 18 points per game in the last five contests. The Chargers haven't exactly been lighting people up lately, so expect a low-scoring affair. Take the points. Chargers 17, Raiders 14

Arizona Cardinals (+9) at Seattle Seahawks

Despite gaining only 136 yards of total offense, Seattle was able to win at Dallas last week to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Cardinals may be bad, but the banged-up Seahawks shouldn't be favored by this much over anybody. Seahawks 24, Cardinals 17

Cincinnati Bengals (+9.5) at Baltimore Ravens

Another divisional rivalry game that's a must-win for one team and meaningless for the other. The Ravens qualify with a win over the lowly Bengals, but this still feels like too many points to lay. Ravens 20, Bengals 14
