The Arizona Cardinals are making contingency plans in the event head coach Bruce Arians decides not to return after the season, and those plans involve targeting Houston Texans bench boss Bill O'Brien, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The Cardinals have reportedly been preparing for Arians' retirement. The 65-year-old is in his fifth year with the team and has battled serious health issues during his tenure, including cancer.
If Arians moves on, O'Brien would be Arizona's top target, should he be available. O'Brien is in his fourth year as Texans head coach, and after three successive 9-7 campaigns, the team has battled multiple injuries to star players to sit at 4-10 this season.
O'Brien has expressed a desire to remain in Houston, but would draw a number of suitors if he is made available.
