Dombrowski says Bradley Jr. trade rumors are inaccurate
With the New York Yankees officially introducing Giancarlo Stanton on Monday, pressure is on the Boston Red Sox to make a big splash of their own at the winter meetings. However, don't expect Jackie Bradley Jr. to be part of it.
Despite speculation the Red Sox could deal the talented outfielder for a power bat, team president Dave Dombrowski denied shopping Bradley Jr., saying: "I don't know where those rumors have started but they're not accurate," according to Chris Mason of CNHI Sports.
The front office executive said he inquired about Stanton last week, but by then, talks had advanced with the Yankees. Dombrowski also confirmed the Red Sox are in pursuit of a bat and would reportedly prefer to add one through a trade rather than spending big on a free agent.
Bradley Jr. is coming off a poor offensive season after finishing 2017 hitting .245/.323/.402 across 133 games, and saw his wRC+ dip from 123 and 119 in each of the last two seasons to 90 this year. Most of his value came in the outfield as he once again shone defensively with 10 DRS and a 4.2 UZR, respectively.
The 27-year-old earned $3.6 million this past season and is under team control until 2021.
