Report: NFL reviewing handling of concussion protocol for Tom Savage

NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills has initiated a review of all procedures pertaining to a concussion sustained by Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage during Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport

Sills aims to speak with the relevant medical staff and review reports from an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant regarding the handling of Savage's diagnosis.

Savage was seen twitching after taking a hit, but was cleared to return to the field without missing any action. The signal-caller managed a few more snaps before ultimately going to the locker room and being officially diagnosed during the ensuing series.

According to NFL.com, Texans coach Bill O'Brien later told the media Savage had been evaluated and cleared for his brief return to the game by the consultant, only for the results of a second test to lead to his removal.

Savage was later replaced by T.J. Yates.
