Report: Angels have met with Sabathia

The Los Angeles Angels added one major piece to their starting rotation by signing Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani, and now reportedly have their sights set on a seasoned veteran.

The Angels met with free-agent southpaw CC Sabathia to discuss the possibility of signing a contract, according to George A. King III of the New York Post.

Sabathia's former team of nine years, the New York Yankees, also reportedly reached out to the 37-year-old veteran in recent days. Sabathia has maintained his desire to "finish things off" with New York, a team that came one win short of the World Series and just added National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton via trade.

Despite adding Ohtani, the Angels could use some help in the bottom half of their starting rotation, and Sabathia fits that bill. The left-hander recorded a 3.69 ERA (122 ERA +) and 1.27 WHIP in 27 starts this past season. He was particularly impressive in the playoffs, performing to a 2.37 ERA with 19 strikeouts in four starts across the ALDS and ALCS.
