The Cleveland Browns released wide receiver Kenny Britt after signing him to a four-year, $32.5-million contract in the offseason, the team announced Friday.

The 29-year-old will go on waivers, but is expected to go unclaimed. In that case, he would then be free to sign with a team of his choosing.

Britt played in nine games for Cleveland this season, making 18 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

The move comes just one day after the Browns fired executive vice president Sashi Brown and replaced him with new general manager John Dorsey.
