Hours after the Cleveland Browns fired executive vice president Sashi Brown, the team announced the hiring of John Dorsey as its new general manager. The quick turnaround brought into question whether the team fulfilled the requirements of the Rooney Rule, a policy that ensures teams interview minority candidates for coaching and senior management positions.

However, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network the team formally interviewed former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley before hiring Dorsey.

Another source within the Browns organization pointed ESPN's Josina Anderson to its history of hiring minority candidates, including Brown and former general manager Ray Farmer.

The Browns will hold a press conference Friday at 11 a.m. ET to introduce their new GM.
