NFL appeals officer Derrick Brooks has upheld New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski's one-game suspension for violation of the league's unnecessary roughness rules after hearing his appeal, vice president of football communications Michael Signora announced Tuesday.
Gronkowski was issued the suspension for hitting Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Tre'Davious White in the back of the head while the defender was on the ground following an interception.
The veteran tight end apologized afterward, though he shared that the hit was a result of frustration brought on by the officiating.
He will miss next Monday's game against the Miami Dolphins and will return for an AFC showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
