Ben Roethlisberger loves to flaunt how tough he and his team play football, but he's hoping his son does not have to go through the same trials.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback watched several of his teammates and opponents leave Monday night's game with serious injuries, Roethlisberger discussed the difficulties of moving on after seeing dangerous plays develop on the field.

He insisted that it is all just a part of the game, though he revealed that, while contemplating retirement in the offseason, he'd rather see his loved ones go a different route, athletically.

"And having kids, I hope my son plays golf," Roethlisberger told CBS Pittsburgh radio on Tuesday. "If he wants to play football that’s fine too but it’s a tough sport. It’s not for everyone.

"If he wants to do it, I’ll encourage it. If he doesn’t, I’m just fine with that as well."
