Embattled New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo could be fired within the 24 hours after Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter report, citing league sources.

In just McAdoo's second year on the job, the Giants have slumped to a 2-9 record after an 11-5 finish in his first campaign. A dismissal would mark some dubious history, as New York has never fired a head coach in season.

General manager Jerry Reese is also reportedly on shaky ground.

The drama has underlined owner John Mara's belief that McAdoo has poor communication skills, Mortensen and Schefter add.

Less than a month ago, co-owners Mara and Steve Tisch released a statement asserting McAdoo continued to have the support of management.

The Giants have come under the national microscope after franchise quarterback Eli Manning was told he would be replaced by backups Geno Smith and Davis Webb in the final five weeks of the season. Instead of being benched midgame, Manning elected to cede his starts to Smith and Webb.
